When did you travel to England?

September, 2019.

Which areas of England did you visit?

So far, only London.

Why did you go to England?

We had a 12-hour layover en route to Oman and decided to visit a friend who lived in the city.

How did you get to London from the continental US?

We flew United Airlines from Birmingham (BHM) to Houston (IAH) (2h), and from IAH to Heathrow (LHR) (9h).

If you are limited on time once arriving in Heathrow, there is an express train that runs directly between Heathrow Airport terminals 2 and 3 and Paddington Station. The train leaves every 15 minutes, and involves a travel time of 15 minutes. A round trip ticket costs £37.

What advice do you have for someone visiting England?

If you are touring around for a long layover like we were, there is an Excess Baggage Company in each terminal that can store any baggage for you (for a fee) instead of having to lug it around the city.

Return to the airport in plenty of time. Heathrow is massive and it seems to take an especially long time navigating the underground to transfer between terminals.

Our buddy brought us to a pub called The Horniman at Hay’s which was on the Thames River and a perfect spot for a scenic lunch. Accessed from the London Bridge Station.

As we were only in London for a few fleeting hours, that is all I have for now. Check back in the future as I believe another trip is needed.

If you have your heart set on a photo session with the famous landmark, Big Ben, keep in mind that it is undergoing a complete restoration until 2021.
