1. I survived my first year of being a college grad. I didn’t get sucked into the corporate world. And yet I somehow managed to not be a complete bum.

2. Except for those four months in Roatan where I was the very definition of a beach bum.

3. But come on, you have to admit that becoming a divemaster is pretty darn cool.

4. And if that doesn’t do it for you than how about a dive instructor! I can get paid to teach people how to breathe underwater. Anywhere in the world.

5. And of course that experience wouldn’t have been what it was without this amazing group of people.

6. Somewhere along the way, there was a SAS reunion on a chicken bus tour of Nicaragua and El Salvador, with a little bit of volcano boarding thrown in the midst.

7. Eventually reality dragged me away from island paradise, but I discovered, to my great delight, that Colorado apparently needs scuba instructors too! (Gotta love that reservoir diving).

8. Then there was that magical month in Thailand, that month that will eventually send me running back to stay.

9. This was a great year for facing mental roadblocks as I conquered my fear of breath holding and plunged to 70 feet without a tank of air.

10. The foundations of Team Rex were forged, a collaboration of cool people with big heads and little arms.

11. 2013 was a big year in discovering exquisite new foods, from beleadas and lionfish ceviche in Honduras, to tom yum soup and street pancakes in Thailand.

12. And let’s not forget the three nights rolled into one of raving in a pool, in the rain, deep in the jungle, on the beach, under the light of the full moon.

13. To top it all off,  it doesn't get much better than bringing in the new year on Jost Van Dyke.
